Position Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
•  Under the supervision of a Physician, practices and performs various procedures, including but not limited to taking patient histories, physical examinations, ordering and performing laboratory and screening procedures, diagnostic/therapeutic procedures; and, first-assisting in surgical procedures, etc., within scope of practice and licensure, excluding the signing of prescriptions.
•  Depending upon area of assignment, performs a variety of duties and responsibilities as described below. 
•  Position requires credentialing and privileging by Medical Staff Services.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
•  Essential: standing, walking, stooping/bending, squatting, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, lifting and pushing/pulling usual weight of 20 pounds, reaching above, at and below shoulder level, repetitive arm/hand motions, frequent gripping of an object.   
•  Occasional: kneeling, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground twisting body.
•  Operates various office and medical equipment including personal computers.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
•  Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions. May be exposed to communicable diseases and body fluids, sharps and chemicals.


IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A.  EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
•  Graduate of accredited school for Physician Assistant Program approved and accredited by the American Medical Association’s Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditations.
•  Evidence of current National Commission on Certification of Physician’s Assistant (NCCPA) certification.
•  Current Hawaii licensure as a Physician Assistant in good standing.
•  Current certification in CPR at Healthcare Professional level; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) may be required in designated areas.
•  Current certification in CPR for Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be preferred in designated areas.

B.  EXPERIENCE:
•  One (1) year experience as a Physician Assistant in area of expertise.
